What is Nurolinguisitc Programme (NLP)?
NLP is the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they do. NLP provides people with a methodology to model outstanding performances achieved by geniuses and leaders in their field.
Neuro refers to our nervous system/mind and how it processes information and codes it as memory inside our body. It refers to experiences as inputted, processed and ordered by our neurological mechanisms to produce outputs.
Linguistic relates to the natural processes of the mind. The way in which information is coded, ordered, and given meaning through language, communication systems and various symbolic mechanisms (grammar, mathematics, music, icons, etc). In NLP we talk about two primary language systems. First, the “mind” processes information in terms of pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes and smells (sensory-based information) via the “representational systems”. Second, “mind” processes information via the secondary-language system of symbols, words, metaphors, etc.
Programming refers to our ability to organise these parts (sights, sounds, sensations, smells, tastes and symbols or words) within our mind-body-organism which then enable us to achieve our desired outcomes. These parts comprise the programmes we run inside our brains. Taking control of one’s own mind describes the heart of NLP.
Combined with functional neurology we use it to help people to let go of things that make them feel anxious, frustrated, afraid or unhappy. We then enable people to access more of the positive skills they have for overcoming their difficulties and show them how to re-programme them so that after a while they automatically access their strengths and abilities rather than their vulnerabilities so that they are more able to handle challenging issues and situations successfully and to move on in their lives.
